Home to around 32,000 residents, Serra Mesa is located about 15 minutes from downtown San Diego or the airport. It is bordered to the north by Kearny Mesa and Aero Dr., to the east by Tierrasanta and the15, to the south by Mission Valley East, and to the west by Mission Valley East, Birdland, and the 805


Serra Mesa is ranked the 7th Most Diverse Neighborhood in San Diego*. and the 12th Best Neighborhood for Young Professionals in San Diego*. A mostly residential neighborhood, Serra Mesa has good schools, convenience to downtown and the airport, nice outdoor spaces, and a fairly diverse housing stock.


Speaking of schools Serra Mesa is served by the San Diego Unified School District, which is rated an A-*. It is also ranked the 8th Most Diverse School District in the US. A unique feature of the high schools serving Serra Mesa, is the Kearny High Educational Complex, rated an A-*. It is made up of four autonomous schools:

  • the School of Biomedical Science and Technology (BST)

  • the School of College Connections (SCC)

  • the School of Digital Media & Design (DMD)

  • Stanley E. Foster School of Engineering, Design, and Innovation (EID)

For middle schools, there is Taft Middle School rated a B+*. For elementary schools you have Jones, Angier, Cubberley, Juarez, and Wegeforth, rated A-, A-, B+, B+, and B respectively*.


Home Price Statistics


The neighborhood is fairly split in terms of the homeowner to renter ratio, 46% own vs 54% rent. The median sale price in the Serra Mesa neighborhood, comes in around $985k. This is about $140k higher than the San Diego metro median.


If you're looking for a single-family home in the neighborhood, currently on the market as of writing this, home prices range from around $799k on the low end, and upwards of $2m on the higher end. If you're interested in a condo or townhome, prices are modest ranging from $425k on the low end and $699k on the high end.
