If you're looking for a great city just outside of San Diego, El Cajon could be a great spot. With a diverse and affordable housing stock, a diverse culture with plenty of suburban amenities, El Cajon has a lot to offer.

Home to around 102k residents, El Cajon is located just over 20 minutes northeast of downtown San Diego and the San Diego Airport.


El Cajon is bordered to the north by the city of Santee, to the east by unincorporated San Diego County, to the south by Spring Valley, and to the west by the city of La Mesa and the San Carlos neighborhood of San Diego.


Served by two different school districts - Grossmont Union High School District and Cajon Valley Union School District. The former operates the public high schools, and the latter operates the public middle and elementary schools.


Home Price Statistics


The median sale price in El Cajon is around $690k, well below that of the San Diego median sales price of around $850k. Approximately 60% of residents rent, with around 40% owning their home.


If you're looking for a single-family home, currently on the market prices range from around $380k on the very low end, and upwards of $2.3m on the high end. If you're looking for a condo or townhome, currently on the market prices range from around $265k on the very low end, and upwards of $650k on the high end.
